Organic industry goes mainstream
The organic and natural skin care market is entering the mainstream as consumers become more aware of the nasties lurking not only in their food and household products, but also in their cosmetics.
Organic magazine launch
To prove this point, a new glossy magazine has launched in the USA, focusing exclusively on organic and natural beauty and jostling for space on the news stands alongside Vogue, Cosmopolitan and the rest of the style press.
According to Rona Berg, editor of new magazine, Organic Beauty, 'Green is no longer a trend it's a lifestyle. On a global scale, we're more concerned about protecting the environment than ever before. We may be consuming less, but we are reading labels more. We want to look good, but we also want our products to be good for us... the natural and organic skin care market is one of the few areas showing consistent growth at the moment.
'Over the past year, Americans spent $7 billion on natural and organic personal care products. According to the Organic Consumer's Association, there's an astounding 39 percent annual growth in the natural and organic sector of the cosmetic industry!' (see Fig and Sage for the full interview with Rona Berg).
Organic Beauty have posted a number of articles from their launch issue on their website, which make good reading.
