Deadly pesticide in Aussie food and fashion

If you missed the 60 Minutes report on the deadly pesticide, Endosulfan, make time to visit the website and watch it. This shockingly dangerous pesticide is in use around Australia even though it is known to cause birth defects such as blindness and mental retardation and has devastated some Indian communities. Write to your MP and demand a complete ban!

Organic living

To avoid pesticides in your food, choose organic. And if you can't afford to make your weekly shop completely organic, here's a list of the fruit and veggies you should buy organic as a priority. These are the ones that are more likely to be contaminated with lots of pesticides - choose organic alternatives if you can:

  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Peaches
  • Nectarines
  • Strawberries
  • Cherries
  • Raspberries
  • Grapes
  • Capsicum
  • Celery
  • Green beans
  • Potatoes
  • Spinach
  • Lettuce
  • Cucumbers
  • Squashes
  • Pumpkins

Happy shopping! And don't forget to write to your MP and explain that you don't want Endosulfan anywhere near your fruit and vegetables.

Organic Fashion

Bear in mind that you might also be endorsing the use of Endosulfan in poorer communities with your choice of clothes. Endosulfan is widely used in cotton farming - watch the You Tube clip below to find out more and support The Environmental Justice Foundation in seeking a global ban on this pesticide.

When shopping for clothes, consider choosing any of these organic brands, so you know that your T-shirt hasn't cost anyone their life.
